The Chief of Staff, Agustín Rossi, considered that the Ministry of Economy “acted accordingly” in relation to the Edesur company due to the repeated power outages in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and affirmed that the claim of the affected residents is “a photograph that we do not want to see of Argentina”.
“The Ministry of Economy, through the ENRE, acted accordingly. The concession contract was used, very high fines were applied and The company will be forced to return a month of service to all users who were affected. In addition, it was decided to place observers in the operation of the company, which will give us a true dimension of its operation and its investments,” Rossi explained in statements to Radio 10.
The national government decided to apply a fine of $1,000 million to Edesur for the poor quality of the service it provides and is analyzing the possibility of taking over the operational management of the electricity distributorwithout this implying the nationalization of the company.
In this context, Rossi regretted that the residents of the southern area of CABA “have suffered what they suffered for four days and nights without electricity and without water” and maintained that “it hurts us all a lot.”
“It is a photograph that we do not want to see of Argentina,” he assured.
The former Defense Minister criticized the “discussion that macrismo brings” about the privatization of companies by assuring that although the Government defends private investment, since “at certain times the role of the State is irreplaceable.”
“(Former President Mauricio) Macri wants to make Aerolíneas Argentinas disappear to carry out the policy they call open skies and which implies that companies go only to profitable destinations,” he said.
In this way, Rossi maintained that routes such as “Córdoba, Bariloche, El Calafate, Mendoza or Las Cataratas are going to be populated with very expensive tickets” while “many destinations are going to be left without frequency and without attention.”
“When the State asks that they serve a destination, they are going to ask for subsidies. That is the story and we already know it. It is a discussion that must be clarified during the electoral debate in Argentina,” he completed.
