The president of the Committee for Santa Cruz, Rómulo Calvo, must attend two court hearings this Monday at the same time. His lawyer, Martín Camacho, confirmed that virtual hearing will be prioritized because it is the most urgent. In addition, he questions the attitude of the judges for intentionally citing him at the same time. believes that the intention would be to declare him a rebel in either of the two cases and to be able to arrest him.
Both hearings are set for 2:30 p.m. of this Monday. However, one will take place virtually and the other in person at the Palace of Justice. Calvo’s defense assured that they will attend the virtual hearing, since the appeal of their precautionary measures is at stake.
“We have to appear at the hearing, which is the most serious or delicate, which is the appeal hearing for precautionary measures, because in that hearing we have the information that the members want to order the arrest of Rómulo Calvo”Camacho noted.
The lawyer questions the attitude of the members, which he considers biased, since the virtual hearings have already been suspended by the Judicial Council.
believes that the intention of placing both hearings at the same time and in different places would be to declare him in absentia in order to rule against him and be able to stop him.
“Let’s not forget that the member Arminda Méndez was a deputy for the Movement Toward Socialism in 2010. The member Wálter Pérez was declared persona non grata by the Pro Santa Cruz Committee and the member Julio Nelson Alba is collaborating with this behavior of these authorities to render him defenseless and ensure that Rómulo is arrested or aggravate his legal situation,” he added.
The civic leader faces two processes in justice. One is for the alleged commission of crimes of breach of duties and improper exercise of the profession within alleged irregularities while working at the Caja Petrolera de Salud and, the other, for the organization of the civic strike last year, in which He is accused of attempted murder.
Calvo is under house arrest for the alleged crimes of breach of duties and improper exercise of the profession. This is how Judge Primo Flores defined it after a hearing. The substitute measures ordered by that jurisdictional authority for Calvo were: house arrest, arraigo, bail of Bs 30,000 and the order to sign an act every week in the Palace of Justice.
Now, Calvo challenged that determination and ask to work outside normal working hourssince as a doctor by profession he does not have specific hours to be able to carry out his work.
