The Secretary of Internal Commerce, Robert Felettiwill meet this Monday with the representatives of the milling industry to draw up strategies that can guarantee the supply of flour in the country.
This given that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine triggered the price of wheat, so the Secretary will seek together with businessmen how to stabilize the internal market, since wheat reached historical levels, according to what was indicated Robert Feletti.
“What worries me most today is the spike in the price of wheat at international levels, since the ton of $280, a month ago, to $490, which arrived these days, is a very big impact,” he said. Robert Felletti.
In addition, the official added: “There is a very big pressure on wheat”, since Russia and Ukraine export 29% of the wheat and 19% of the corn in the world so urgent measures are needed to address the looming crisis.
“If you don’t have enough decoupling mechanisms, there will be tension,” he said. Felettiwho also assured: “Today the measures we put in place for this decoupling from international prices may become insufficient.”
For this reason, the president is concerned that with soaring wheat prices and the shortage of flour in the domestic market, the prices of various products will skyrocket, including bread.
“Twenty days ago we agreed with the bakers and millers on the price of a kilo of French bread in a range of $220 to $260 with a bag of flour at $1,300. Today that agreement is breaking down,” said the official.
For Roberto Feletti, the wheat trust is not “enough”
Given the escalation of war between Russia and Ukraine and the international markets shot up, in recent days the Secretary announced the creation of a wheat trust to cushion price increases.
However, given the complex panorama that the world faces today due to the conflict, this measure would not be enough: “Today the trust to ensure the price of flour and noodles is insufficient in the face of this price increase”, he expressed.
