Robertlandy Simón returns to his origins in Italy

After four years of triumphs with Lube Civitanova, the Cuban volleyball player Robertlandy Simon will become part of Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in the Italian League, which represents a return to the city that saw it debut in the best professional circuit in the world a decade ago.

Simón ended his adventure in Civitanova, where he won three Scudettos, two Italian Cups, a Champions League and a Club World Cup since his signing in 2018. During this period, he was ranked in the Top-20 of the best scorers (838 points) of the tournament despite playing as a center back, while he scored fifth in the service with 119 aces and sixth in the list of blockers, with 154 points for the defense in the net.

The Antillean became one of the main referents of the Lube together with his fellow countrymen Osmany Juantorena and Yoandy Leal. They were the backbone of a project that in recent years has been nurtured by various renowned players and other promises, such as Ivan Zaytsev, Ricardo Lucarelli, Bruno Rezende, Luciano De Cecco, Tsvetan Sokolov.

After confirming his goodbye, Simón spent a few heartfelt words to the fans of the Lube. “I am sad about the departure, but the fans have filled me with joy. I reciprocate the affection that the fans have shown me. A special feeling was established, when I could I met them. I will no longer be part of Lube, a company that has given me indescribable successes, but I will often return to Civitanova”, said the West Indian.

Piacenza welcomes the prodigious Cuban central defender with open arms, aware of the boost he can give them on a qualitative level. The club finished the most recent Italian League season in sixth position in the regular phase, with a dozen wins and losses in 24 games.

In the quarterfinals they managed to wrest a victory from Trentino, but were eliminated and went on to discuss positions from 5 to 10. In that playoff they won each of the seven games they played and took fifth place.

With Simón, they will have better opportunities, just like sentenced the president of the club, Elisabetta Curti: “He is a champion and we are sure that his arrival can give added value to the team, it is a guarantee not only of great plays but of great character skills, we had the precise will to have elements that Look for victory in your DNA. It is natural that we expect a response of support, of presence, above all of encouragement for this team, I am excited to imagine it and it will be fun to see him play, even in training, with this champion on the pitch”.
