A recent report by the Road Safety Observatory (OSV) reveals a tragic balance for the month of March in Venezuela, with at least 144 people who died in traffic accidents.
The data, released on Tuesday, April 15, come from the analysis of 396 sources, including press reports, social networks and records of road aid groups.
The observatory counted a total of 329 road accidents during the month of March. In addition to the alarming number of deaths, the report indicates that 446 people were injured, with a rate of 136.80 injured per 100 accidents, indicating the seriousness of many of the incidents.
Death statistics show a greater incidence in men (112) compared to women (32). While the motorized were the most vulnerable, representing 67 of the deaths, followed by Parrilleros (25), drivers of vehicles (22), pedestrians (15) and occupants of vehicles (9).
Speeding is erected as the main cause of these accidents, being present in 66.36 % of cases (213). The inmate at the wheel was located as the second most frequent cause, with 17.13 % of the incidents (55 cases). Mechanical failures contributed to 18 accidents. Avenues and highways in urban areas were identified as the roads with the highest number of registered accidents.
