The National Director of Police Order and Security, Inspector General Enrique Monrasreported this Tuesday that 96% of people arrested for mistreatment of police personnel during 2022, in the Metropolitan region, have been released.
According to Monrás, 1,122 people have been arrested for mistreatment of police personnel throughout the country. In the RM, 480 attackers have been apprehended. Of them, 96% have been released.

In detail, 961 carabineros have been attacked and injured between January and September 2022. The personnel affected includes 809 men and 152 women.
The largest number of attacks are concentrated in September, with 120 officials affected. The figure represents 8% more than the same month last year.
“If we deliver these figures it is because behind each of these attacks there are people, men and women who have families and who go out every day to help and defend citizens,” said General Monrás.
“It is important that everyone knows that mistreating a police officer is a crime. And, as our general director has said, we will continue to arrest those who attack these Chileans who deserve respect for the fundamental work they carry out on a daily basis in favor of our country”, he added.
“Our profession, we know, involves risks. But as our highest authority said, we don’t want more dead policemen. We don’t want more policemen injured by cowardly and cunning attacks either. They don’t deserve it. Chile doesn’t deserve this irrational violence either. understand once and for all: attacking a carabinero is damaging the country,” he added.
Assault in Barrio Franklin
Three illegal car keepers attacked two Carabineros officials on Sunday in Barrio Franklin, in the commune of Santiago. The police arrived at the scene after a complaint about threats. In this context, they arrested a vehicle caretaker; His companions proceeded to attack the police personnel.
Carabineros detained two adults aged 20 and 19, and a 17-year-old adolescent. The subjects were released, but with national roots.
The prosecution did not request preventive detention. Sources familiar with this type of case indicated that this is due to the fact that the crime of mistreatment of the work does not include this precautionary measure.
The case is not closed, as the Public Ministry continues with the investigation.
