The Justice of Rio de Janeiro decreed the preventive detention of a socio-educational agent accused of rape in a female juvenile detention unit of the state’s General Department of Socio-Educational Actions (Degase).
He is responsible for several rape of vulnerable crimes against interns at the Professor Antonio Carlos Gomes da Costa unit, on Ilha do Governador, in the north of the city of Rio, in 2021.
The decision was taken by the 6th Special Court of Domestic and Family Violence against Women in the Capital. Another agent charged with the crime is already in custody.
The investigation began with complaints made by adolescent inmates, who reported having been subjected to a routine of sexual violence within the unit.
After the complaints, the Degase dome has been moved by the State Secretary of Education, Alexandre Valle, in July last year.
