The Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro will host, in July next year, an out-of-season carnival, with street blocks from the city. According to the organizers, the event, called CarnaRio, is scheduled for July 15 and 16, 2023 and should have 12 hours of parades each day.
The blocks will cover the entire Marquês de Sapucaí, from Sector 1 to Praça da Apoteose. It will be possible to parade along with the blocks, on the avenue, or just watch.
The expectation is that CarnaRio will become part of the city’s official calendar of annual events and that it will bring together 80,000 people in its first year. As of 2024, organizers are already hoping to expand the audience and hold the event on more weekends of the month.
The event will be private, organized by the companies V3A, Dream Factory and K7a4, but it will have the support of the city hall.
