The city of Rio de Janeiro starts today (11) flu vaccination for people aged 60 and over. This age group will be immunized until April 30, according to the Municipal Health Department.
Initially, the forecast was to vaccinate this week the elderly aged 70 and over. People over 60 would only be immunized in the last week of April, but the municipality decided to bring the calendar forward.
Health workers of any age will also be immunized from today. The vaccination campaign began last week, serving people aged 80 and over and elderly healthcare workers.
The goal is to vaccinate, by June 3, 1.8 million people in the city, or 90% of the population of priority groups, which include, in addition to the elderly and health professionals, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, , nursing mothers, people with disabilities, indigenous people, the chronically ill, prisoners and education workers, penitentiary system, ports, security, passenger and cargo transport and members of the armed forces.
