Aerolíneas aún no deciden si volverán a Nicaragua, Return of Flights to Nicaragua

Return of Spirit Airlines to Nicaragua Announced

The low-cost US airline Spirit Airlines would plan to return to Nicaragua as of December 1, 2022, being the second US airline to do so along with American Airlines, which reported the return of its operations for next November 30.

The Schuvar Tours travel agency reported through its social networks the resumption of Spirit flights, after two years since the impact of the health crisis due to covid-19, which was aggravated by the restrictions imposed by the authorities of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

Among these barriers was the obligation to know the composition of the crews three days in advance, and to require that they present vaccination certificates, a measure that was always incomprehensible to companies in the sector, because they were required at the same time that activities in Nicaragua were promoted. that carried high possibilities of contagion.

Although companies such as the Panamanian COPA Airlines and the Salvadoran TACA (owned by the Colombian Avianca), did agree to comply with these requirements, the American companies American, United and Spirit, they refrained from choosing a return date.

In June 2022, the Ministry of Health announced the relaxation of these requirements, among which the requirement to know the boarding list in advance was maintained, apparently to exercise the abusive veto that the Immigration authorities have implemented to prevent entry the country to Nicaraguans and foreigners who they consider undesirable.

The return of American Airlines

American Airlines issued from Miami confirming that it will start selling tickets as of Monday, August 29, to resume its flights to Managua as of Wednesday, November 30.

That day, a Boeing 737-800, with capacity for 172 passengers, will take off from Miami at 10:25 in the morning, to land in Managua at 12:18 noon. Little more than an hour later, the same device will take flight at 1:20, planning to land in Miami at 4:55 in the afternoon. All are local times of the cities mentioned.

Although the cost of the tickets was not announced, the Nicaraguan tourism industry expects that the greater availability of seats to fly to the United States and its multiple connections with the world will drive down the price of those tickets which, depending on the destination chosen and the season selected, can cost up to three times more than what It is difficult to travel from other countries, to those same cities.

The only US airline that operated in Nicaragua that has not confirmed the return of its flights is United Airlines.
