Results of the David Ortiz investigation and the version of the Dominican authorities contradict each other

Santo Domingo – The findings of the former Boston Police Commissioner, Ed Davis, in the investigation ordered by former Major League Baseball player David Ortiz regarding the attack against him in 2019, leave the Dominican authorities in a bad light, as they contradict the version offered by the Public Ministry at that time.

First, they alleged that an unspecified person with an unknown motive posted a bounty on Ortiz. However, they quickly abandoned the theory and attributed the shooting to a case of mistaken identity, without ever implicating the person responsible today, according to the investigation of the case, the drug trafficker César Emilio Peralta “César el Abusador”.

Ortiz, who in January became the fourth Dominican player elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, said he hired Davis in 2019 in part because he was concerned about the integrity of the Dominican investigation under Jean Alain Rodríguez, the attorney general. at that moment.

Since then, Rodríguez has been jailed on public corruption charges unrelated to Peralta.

Authorities version

Just days after the attack, the Attorney General of the Republic, Jean Rodríguez, and the Director General of the National Police, Major General Ney Aldrin Bautista, offered the national press the identification of fugitives Víctor Hugo Gómez and Alberto Miguel Rodríguez Mota, to who they identified as the masterminds of the attack.

In principle, it was said that the allegedly implicated were offered 400,000 pesos to carry out the attack, days later they reported that it was actually 30,000 dollars, of which only 10,000 would have been given for the expenses of the operation.

Ten days after the event, the authorities reported that the target of the attack was not the former baseball player, but a friend of his named Sixto David Fernández, alias El Modelo.

According to Jean Alain, the prosecutor at that time, Sixto David Fernández was with Ortiz and other acquaintances at a table at the Dial Bar and Lounge, on Presidente Vásquez Avenue, on the night of Sunday, June 9, when the event occurred.

The former prosecutor showed, through a video, that the outfits of Fernández, who has a mechanic shop and does not have a criminal record, and that of the former baseball player were similar, for which he argued that the criminals would have confused the target.

The authorities reported that Fernández told them during the interrogations that Víctor Hugo Gómez, alleged mastermind, is “the only person with an interest and threats to attempt against his life for an event that occurred a few years earlier, when Víctor Hugo Gómez was arrested by the Directorate National Drug Control (DNCD), and that could have been interpreted as an act of denunciation against him.

On his side, Víctor Hugo, who belongs to the Gulf of Mexico Cartel, after being captured, assured that he did not give the order to assassinate Sixto David, but that Junior Julio César La Hoz took that “lightness” after learning that he he had betrayed him, and he looked for the people to commit the deed.

Supposedly La Hoz communicated with Alberto Rodríguez Mota and he in turn met with Víctor Hugo, who allegedly gave the order. After this, Rodríguez Mota made contact with two inmates of the Azua 15 prison to devise the attack.

From the compound, according to the authorities, the prisoners José Eduardo Ciprian, alias Chuky; and Carlos Rafael Álvarez, alias Carlos Nike, prepared the entire operation and communicated directly with other defendants, who were in charge of recruiting the other participants and materially executing the contract killing operation.
