New year is approaching, and parents and guardians are already starting to worry about purchasing school supplies for students for the next school year.
In order not to spend more than they should, the population should pay attention to some tips, since according to the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers and Importers of School Items, the increase in the price of school supplies should vary between 15% and 30%.
In addition, there are items that schools cannot request on supply lists and should not be purchased by families. The general director of Procon of the Federal District, Marcelo Nascimento, tells what these items are.
“The school cannot ask for material for collective use by parents and guardians. Material for collective use is that which the educational institution uses for itself, such as stationery, office material, hygiene and cleaning material. So, this type of product cannot be required under any circumstances from the student. These items for collective use belong to the school, neither parents nor guardians can be charged.”
For requests for atypical items, the institution must justify the reason for the request and how the individual student will use the material.
Marcelo Nascimento also gives two tips for parents or guardians to save money when buying materials. “Parents can also come together and make collective purchases, buy wholesale there, it is certainly cheaper and do price research.”
If the consumer considers the school list to be abusive or has doubts regarding the ordering of materials, he should first contact the educational institution. If it is not resolved, Procon must be contacted by telephone: 151.
