Rescued, 700 thousand people with irregular entry to Mexico

The National Institute of Migration (INM) will close 2022 with almost 32 million regular income to the country, as well as the rescue of more than 700,000 people who entered Mexico irregularly, mostly from the Caribbean, Central and South America.

Through a statement, the agency of the Ministry of the Interior indicated that during the year to conclude its main lines of action were fight corruption, expedite immigration procedures, assist people in a context of mobility and protect their lives from human trafficking networks, accompaniment to compatriots, assisted return, repatriation and special attention to children and adolescents.

From January 1 to December 28, it registered the regular entry of 31 million 708 thousand 774 nationals and foreigners; likewise, the rescue of 746 thousand 695 migrants was recorded of various nationalities.

Of this total, 636,461 were adults and 110,234 minors, and of the latter, 14,270 were traveling unaccompanied. Said people, added the INM, were rescued in safe houses, warehouses, trailer boxes, hotels, among other places, and came mainly from Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, El Salvador, and Colombia.

Meanwhile, 12 thousand 914 minors in migration situation were identified, of which 741 were under 11 years old and 12 thousand 173 were between 12 and 17 years old; eight teens were pregnant. All of them remained under the guardianship of the System for the Comprehensive Development of the Family.

In addition, the institute carried out training actions to combat human trafficking and made 1,609 probable perpetrators of said crime available to the Public Ministry; it also insured 1,502 vehicles.

In coordination with national and international security authoritiesadded the INM in a statement, rejected the admission of 3,744 people for having an immigration alert, including 613 for probable sexual crimes, 14 with an arrest warrant and 956 for bad records, among others.

Regarding the humanitarian tasks carried out by the INM through Beta Groups, in 2022 a total of 171,653 assistances were registered to national and foreign people in transit during their journey through the country. Likewise, 84 bodies of those who lost their lives trying to cross the Rio Grande, crossing the mountains, the desert or falling from a train were recovered.
