The police seized this Friday 600 prison cuts in the unit 4 of the Santiago Vázquez prison (former Comcar), in Montevideo, during a procedure this Friday morning. In addition, he seized 50 liters of fermented drink (better known as escabio) and 29 cell phones, the Ministry of the Interior reported in a statement.
The seizures “have been taken as a regular job, which means that in the fights that may occur, the weapons are fewer, the wounded are fewer. And therefore there are also fewer homicides,” said the director of Coexistence and Citizen Security, Santiago Gonzalez.

It is the fourth general search in the unit, since March 2020 when the current government took office. It is the 11th in prisons in the country, since the same date, according to official figures.
In prisons “the level of violence has dropped,” said González. In Uruguay, 14,300 people are imprisoned, and more than 4,000 are housed in that unit.
The portfolio arranged this Friday 450 troops to participate in the operation, and 45 of them were students from the Penitentiary Training Center who are training executive agents.
