Three airports move 94% of passengers to and from the Dominican Republic

The three airports busiest in the country -Punta Cana, Las Américas and Cibao- were responsible for 94% of the total passenger traffic, from/to the Dominican Republic in April 2022.

It led the one in Punta Cana, with 747,170 passengers transported, which represents 55% of the total. According to statistics obtained from the database of the JCivil Aviation Board (JAC).

The one in La Romana had a decrease, going from averaging more than 70 thousand passengers per month in the period November 2021-February 2022, to 11 thousand in April 2022, due to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

In April 2022, for the second consecutive month, this airport sets a particular month mark, with 364,931 passengers carried, surpassing the number of passengers in April 2019 with an additional 31,914 passengers.

This is the second fastest growing airport in the country, with a 10% increase in passenger traffic, compared to the number of passengers carried in April 2019.

Only Cibao Airport grew at a faster rate. The US airlines, JetBlue, American, Delta and United, were responsible for 62% of the total passenger traffic at this airport, mainly connecting with New York and Miami.

Cibao Airport is the third busiest and fastest growing airport in the Dominican Republic, with 151,647 passengers transported in April 2022.

This number represents a growth of 15%, compared to April 2019 and also breaks a record for the largest number of passengers in the month of April, surpassing the record number set last year by only one hundred passengers.

The number of passenger traffic already mentioned is the largest to date in the year 2022 and the largest since September 2021 (8 months).

The Punta Cana airport is the busiest in the Dominican Republic and registered a passenger traffic of 747,170 in April 2022.

This makes this month the busiest April in the history of the Punta Cana airport, and the fourth best month overall, second only to July 2018 and March 2018 and 2019.

In relative terms, the aforementioned figure represents a growth of 7%, compared to April 2019.

It is the first time that this airport exceeds pre-pandemic passenger movement levels (2019).

Despite the fact that the Punta Cana airport received zero (0) passenger traffic from Russia in April 2022, before the war it was its fifth busiest market. The lack of passenger traffic from Sheremtyevo, Tolmachevo and Kazan did not cause a drop in their numbers.

The most active airlines were those based in the United States, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Delta Airlines and United Airlines. On the other hand, Toronto and Montreal were the busiest connections.
