Oficios religiosos en RD durante Semana Santa

Religious services in the DR during Holy Week

With the blessing of the branches, the Dominican Catholic Church begins today, Sunday, various religious activities to celebrate Holy Week or Major Week. The celebrations will be held in addition to the archdiocese of Santo Domingo, in the other dioceses.

For Thursday the 14th at 9:30 in the morning, the Chrism Mass is scheduled in the First Cathedral of America, a festivity in which the holy oils that the Church will use throughout the year will be blessed, counting from this date. This activity will be headed by the Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Monsignor Francisco Ozoria Acosta.

In each church, on the afternoon of Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper is held. There the priest performs the rite of foot washing, which recalls the moment when Jesus, during the last supper, gets up and washes the feet of his twelve apostles and after that he tells them: “Do as I have done with you”

“You call me Master and Lord; and you say well, because I am. For if I, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, so that as I have done to you, you also may do” (John 13, 13-15).

The Sermon of the 7 Words will be this Friday the 15th starting at 1:00 in the afternoon at the First Cathedral of America. It will be broadcast on different television channels and social networks.

“The Archdiocese of Santo Domingo invites you to the Holy Week celebrations, presided over by our bishops in the different vicariates. In a very special way, we invite you to the Sermon of the 7 Words that will take place on April 15, Good Friday, at 1:00 in the afternoon at the First Cathedral of America,” says a note from the entity.

From the 10th to the 15th of this month, each parish will exhaust its own program of activities that will be given by the diocese to which it belongs.

On Holy Saturday, the third day of the Easter Triduum, which lasts until dawn on Sunday, since the body of Jesus is in the Holy Sepulchre, no mass is celebrated and the altar remains empty until the beginning of the Easter Vigil. For Sunday there is the Lord’s Resurrection Mass.
