Relatives of missing children in the Florida Straits cry out for help

MIAMI, United States. – The grandmother of the Cuban teenager Alejandra Mesa, who has been missing in the Straits of Florida for 17 days, asked for help to locate her granddaughter and nine other migrants who left the island on April 4, in an attempt to reach the United States shores.

“The only thing I would like is that, please, they look for her, wherever she is,” the woman asked in a video published by the program “Primer Impacto” of the Univisión network. “Help us, please. We are desperate,” she cried.

For his part, Zoel Mesa Matos, father of the minor, indicated that “at no time” did the teenager’s mother tell him that she was going to do “such a barbarity.”

“If that had been the case, I would not have allowed that. I would not agree to expose my daughter to such danger,” she said. “This is sad, desperate. I have no words to express how I feel, “she added at another time.

Alejandra Mesa left the Island on April 4 in a boat along with nine other people, including two minors (a five-year-old and a two-year-old).

According to “Primer Impacto”, the relatives of the Cubans who disappeared in the Straits of Florida rented a small plane last weekend and flew over the Florida Keys in vain.

“Another day without them, please, whoever knows about them or has seen them let us know,” asked Internet user Yuly Esperón, whose sister, brother-in-law and nephew were on the same boat.

“They have been missing since Monday, April 4, they left in a boat called El Tridente through Playa de Guanabo. With them are seven (7) adults and three (3) minors, “he explained.

The relatives of the 10 disappeared people sent the names of their loved ones to the office of the Cuban-American congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, from where, they assured, they make arrangements with the Coast Guard to obtain information about the missing rafters.

Weekly, dozens of Cuban rafters They reach the shores of Florida. Most of the migrants are intercepted by US authorities, who try to dissuade migrants from the Island from jumping into the sea.

However, more and more news is emerging of Cubans who have disappeared or even died in their attempt to reach the shores of the United States.
