Reinaldo Pared expressed his desire to end his life

Helpline: The Department of Mental Health of the Ministry of Public Health has the information line on depression at 809-544-4223.

The former president of the Senate, Reinaldo Pared Pérez, was receiving medical assistance after expressing his desire to end his life, revealed this Monday his brother, the former head of the National Directorate of Investigations (DNI), Sigfrido Pared Pérez.

“We thought that he had overcome that situation and, unfortunately, it seems that not, that a series of elements that he did not externalize led him to commit this misfortune.”Said the brother of the political leader, who in 2020 was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus.

He added that the tests carried out showed that the cause of death of the former senator was internal bleeding caused by a gunshot to the chest.

The former Minister of the Armed Forces said that he spoke with his relative at noon last Thursday, when he told him that he was going to Juan Dolio to spend the weekend.

“I told him to enjoy himself and to try to go out and walk so that he would feel much better and not be so locked in his home,” added Pared Pérez.

He indicated that he did not judge his brother, since “you have to be inside the human being to know what he thinks, what uncomfortable situations he could have in his life and that we cannot know; I have always said that the people who do this type of action think about it a lot and it seems that he did not want to drag anyone into that decision ”.

The 65-year-old lawyer was buried this Sunday in the Santo Domingo Norte Memorial Garden, in an act attended by national political figures. Sigfrido Pared Pérez expressed himself in those terms during a telephone interview on the radio program El Sol de la Mañana.
