Regime prohibits friar Juan Carlos Treminio from entering Nicaragua

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, through the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration, denied entry to Nicaragua to the Franciscan priest Juan Carlos Treminio Vallejos, originally from the municipality of Darío, in the department of Matagalpa.

According to information from the Mosaico CSI media outlet, the religious was preparing to return to Nicaragua after having participated “in a meeting of the Permanent Formation Commission of the Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe of Central America and Panama based in Guatemala.”

Ecclesiastical sources confirmed to digital media that Father Juan Carlos Treminio, with 17 years of priestly order, is guardian or superior of the Order of Friars Minor in the Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Fátima Parish in the Central America neighborhood of Managua. In addition, he is president of the Nicaraguan Conference of Religious Men and Women.

Other friars prevented from entering Nicaragua

Treminio is not the only Franciscan who has been denied entry to Nicaragua, since this level of repression has been in place since 2021.

In January of last year, the Ortega dictatorship denied entry to the Salvadoran priest Fray Santos Fabian Mejia Sagastume, parish priest of the San Francisco de Asís Church, of the Diocese of Juigalpa.

The Franciscan was also not allowed to enter —in the same way from El Salvador— Fray Javier Lemus, parish priest of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Matagalpa.
