MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban regime changed the lawyer who would represent the protesting rapper Maykel Osorbo for another lawyer, just four days before the artist’s trial, scheduled for May 30 and 31.
“On Wednesday, May 26, Maykel was visited by his lawyer at the 5 y medio prison in Pinar del Río. They were going to finalize details related to his impending trial. On the way to the prison, the lawyer, Ginett del Solar Vega, announced that she could not represent Maykel because she had had some problems at the firm and the trials had been restricted until August 1. In addition, Ramos asked the foreign press, diplomatic representations and Cuban and foreign citizens who are trying to access the trial, which will take place in the Municipal Court of Marianao.
Last monday it was known that hehe trials against Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Maykel Osorbo had been set for May 30 and 31.
For its part, on March 8, the Municipal People’s Court of Central Havana made the request for an oral trial for Otero Alcántara and Castillo Pérez, who are approaching a year in prison under precautionary measures.
However, tax requests they were not made public until a month lateron April 7.
Both Otero Alcántara and Castillo Pérez are being prosecuted for different common causes, including “outrage against national symbols of a continuing nature”, “disrespect”, “defamation of institutions and organizations and of heroes and martyrs”, ” attack”, “resistance” and “public disorder”.
