Regime cancels traditional aquatic Via Crucis of Granada and announces its own

In its frontal fight that the Ortega-Murillo regime maintains against the Catholic Church, in prohibiting all traditions of religious piety this Holy Week, the cancellation of the aquatic Stations of the Cross on the islets of the great Lake Cocibolca is listed, a tradition of more than 40 years started by Father Omar Cordero of the Guadalupe parish in Granada.

The aquatic Way of the Cross in charge of the faithful of the San Judas Tadeo parish of the El Diamante Shipyard community, has been taking place on Holy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but this year, they declared themselves sad to learn that all the processions within the Diocese of Granada were cancelled.

“The fact that we cannot carry out our Easter traditions does not mean an outburst of our faith, because we as Catholics will gather in our temples, to live the mystery of the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said a parishioner.

The boats that follow the image of Jesús Nazareno had the tradition of leaving on a day like today from El Diamante Shipyard and tomorrow, from Marina Cocibolca, where dozens of faithful aboard their boats pray with fervor and devotion at each of the 14 stations in the islets.

The locals and owners of the islets decorate the crosses of each of the seasons with flowers, corozos and fruits of the summer season and some are accustomed to distribute a toast to the assistants who advance in the water to the beat of philharmonic musicians who sing sacred music. , in a tour of more than two hours through more than 60 islets.

Cancellation affects boaters

The two days of carrying out the aquatic Stations of the Cross during Holy Week in the great lake of Nicaragua means an additional income for the traditional boatmen who remain in Marina Cocibolca and the tourist center, because their transport units with capacity for 14 passengers, were rented by faithful Catholics, to participate in this act of faith.

This religious tradition is also attended by tourists who came to contemplate a unique act of faith in the world, where the waters become the stage, to recreate the ordeal that Christ lived on the way to his crucifixion.

“In the two-hour journey of the aquatic Way of the Cross, we used to charge up to one hundred dollars for the rental of our boats that provide all the security and conditions, but we have learned that this year there will not be. That means less income this summer,” lamented an anonymous boater.

The viacrucis of the dictatorship

The Ortega-Murillo regime, through the delegation of the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute, Intur, from the colonial city, will carry out the aquatic Stations of the Cross on the islets, without the participation of a priest from the Diocese of Granada who prays and meditates on each one of them. seasons.

For the Catholic faithful, this activity of the regime will be reduced to a carnival atmosphere, because they intend to replace a religious tradition of more than 40 years. “Without our church, without faith, without pity, or love, that’s just any show, a carnival,” said one promise.
