Reduction of working hours in Colombia: what you should know about the law

Reduction of working hours in Colombia: what you should know about the law

As of July 15, 2023, the working day in Colombia will be reduced by one hour, that is, they will no longer work 48 hours a week, as is the case now, but 47. This reduction will be gradual, because by July 15, but in 2024, the ordinary working day will go to 46 hours a week.

(This is the company where you only work three days a week.)

This change in working hours obeys Law 2101, of 2021, “which aims to gradually reduce the weekly working day, without reducing the salary or affecting the acquired rights and guarantees of the workers”.

But, what implications does this reduction have for companies? Could it help improve productivity? Is it a positive measure? Christian García, ManpowerGroup lawyer, answers these and other questions in this regard.
