The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued this Sunday an orange alert for extreme temperatures for several towns in four provinces, the City of Buenos Aires and surroundings, and a red alert for the northwest of Mendoza and a large part of Corrienteswhile La Rioja and Santiago del Estero are the hottest cities.
According to the ranking of the agency under the Ministry of Defense, the hottest cities this Sunday afternoon were La Rioja with 40.8 degrees and Santiago del Estero with 40.4 degrees.
The list prepared by the SMN is continued by Tartagal (Salta) and San Juan, with 40 degrees; the city of Rivadavia in Salta, and Chamical (La Rioja) with 39.8, Termas de Río Hondo (Santiago del Estero) with 39.6, Morón (Buenos Aires) with 39.3, Reconquista (Santa Fe) with 39.1 and Gualeguaychú (Entre Ríos) with 39.

Regarding the thermal sensation (ST), Marcos Juárez (Córdoba) was on the podium with a temperature of 42.5 degrees and 37; Pehuajó (Buenos Aires), with 41.5 and 36.6; and Coronel Suarez (Buenos Aires) with 39.5 and 34.3.
Mendoza is under a red alert level, which means “high to extreme effect on health”, with temperatures that “can affect all people, even healthy ones.”

The extreme temperatures, the agency warned, “can be very dangerous, especially for risk groups,” such as boys and girls, people over 65, or those with chronic diseases.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in force for the northwest of Mendoza, south of La Rioja, north and south of San Luis, north and south of Córdoba, Tucumán, Catamarca, west of Corrientes, center and west of Entre Ríos, southeast of Santiago del Estero, north of Santa Fe, south and center of the province of Buenos Aires and south of Salta.
This Saturday, The Ministry of Health recommended “special care with the elderly, babies, boys and girls, pregnant and lactating people, people with a chronic illness or who are overweight, people exposed to heat in their work environment, those who live on the streets”, among others.
The recommendations in closed places to avoid heat stroke are: hydrate, drink water more frequently (even when you don’t feel thirsty), and always try to consume safe water, avoid drinks with excess caffeine or sugar, very cold or very hot.
It is also advisable to incorporate fruits and vegetables into the diet and avoid large meals, as well as perform intense physical activity, the Ministry said in a statement.
It was also suggested to avoid direct exposure to the sun during the hottest hours (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), especially babies, girls, and young children. Also, it is important to use sun protection.
On the other hand, it was recommended to “pay attention to signs such as: intense thirst and dry mouth, body temperature greater than 39 degrees, excessive sweating, suffocation sensation, dry skin, exhaustion, dizziness or fainting, stomach aches, lack of appetite, nausea or vomiting, headaches, among others”
In relation to the elderly, while the heat wave lasts, it was suggested “not to go out without company and if you feel dizzy or very affected by high temperatures, you should do without going outside so that the heat does not reinforce negatively the symptomatology”.
