power alliances

The division of powers is one of the most distinctive currencies of liberal democracies. It is so important that in the case of the United States of America and in England, the president cannot enter the capitol if he does not have the permission of the cameras, even to give the annual message to the Nation. In the case of England, the queen has to ask permission to enter parliament, even for her annual message. Otherwise, it is strictly forbidden for one power to enter another, without the consent of the host power.

With this, what is sought is that while one power, such as the legislature, is deliberating and discussing, the other cannot interrupt or threaten the deliberators with the public force and, with this, try to influence the discussions or decisions that take the legislature.

Last week a singular event occurred. The government commission of the chamber of deputies met with the call and the sole attendance of deputies from Morena. The purpose of the meeting was to remove the president of said commission, Alejandro Moreno, also president of the PRI from the presidency of said commission. In their very personal terms, the morenista deputies in a fleeting meeting decided that the president lacked the moral courage and honesty to preside over said commission. So they ran it, according to them.

The matter, however, has some problems. The first is that the call to the sessions has to be made by the board of directors or one of its members, therefore care is taken that all committee boards are plural. Second, it has to be done with some time in advance, unless it is a matter of urgent and clear pronouncement. And, there must be the representation of more than one political force in said meeting, otherwise the meeting lacks validity.

Alito is not a saint of my devotion, nor of many, but the matter was clearly illegal and was clearly one more of the attacks on the PRI president, added to those of the unpresentable and graceful ballerina governor of the state of Campeche .

There is, however, a further detail. Outside the session, among the highly educated and legal scholars from Moreno, the National Guard showed up to ensure that the session took place without the presence of anyone else and to protect the safety (it was argued) of the attending deputies.

We don’t know who asked for the federal security forces on the commission’s premises, no one knows who allowed the security forces of another power to enter the legislative premises and even less so to the commission’s premises, but that it is an illegal matter. It is for the executive branch and it is from the perspective of the camera. If the public force is necessary to remove the president of a commission, introduced in an unclear manner and in violation of the rules that govern the two powers of the country, I do not imagine that it can happen in the discussion or upcoming processing of other matters much more significant and important for our country.

For now, what is palpable is that the president continues to escalate violating the law, for what he considers fair, even if it is illegal. Nothing more, but nothing less too.
