The National Directorate for Drug Control and the Navy of the Dominican Republic carried out two operations on the coasts of the country that resulted in the arrest of eight people and the seizure of at least 1.4 tons of cocaine.
The detainees are five Venezuelans, two Dominicans and one Colombian. The 1,402 packets of cocaine were spread over two speedboats that were intercepted in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of the provinces of San Pedro de Macoris and Santo Domingo.
The authorities detailed that in the first boat there was 659 packages of cocaine, in the second boat there was 743 packs of cocaine and both boats left the area of La Guajirabut it has not been determined if they set sail from the Colombian side or from the Venezuelan side.
So far this year, the Dominican Republic has seized 11 tons of cocaine, of which 5.9 tons were intercepted in April.
