Sales in supermarkets grew by 6.6% in February

Sales in supermarkets registered in February a 6.6% increase in relation to the same month last year, while they fell 6.5% in relation to January, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec).

Meanwhile, sales in supermarkets wholesalers during February remained stableboth in the year-on-year comparison and compared to last February, in the measurement at constant prices.

On the other hand, operations in large shopping centers or shopping malls rose 32.9% in year-on-year terms, with the normalization of customer service after the new wave last January and the reestablishment of activity in cinemas, although with limited capacity.

In the supermarkets, sales at current prices during February they added a total of $152,189.3 million, with a 63.7% increase Respect to the same month of previously year.

The groups of articles with the most significant increases were: “Clothing, footwear and textiles for the home”, 95.2%; “Prepared foods and rotisserie”, 80.9%; and “Electronics and household items”, 80% YoY

At current prices, the jurisdictions where the most important increases were registered were: Santa Cruz, 76.4%; Rio Negro, 74.0%; San Luis, 71.1%; Rest of Buenos Aires, 70.7% and Neuquén with 70.6%.
