Quisqueya ensemble celebrated half a century of music

The popular Quisqueya set celebrated with special guests, its 50 years. The capacity of the Teatro la Fiesta was full of public and the repertoire was a journey through the walk of the merengue group.

Saturday was rainy, but people arrived early and getting a parking lot in the surroundings of the La Fiesta Theater of the Hotel Jaragua, where the concert was held, was almost impossible.

Sitting, standing, singing, dancing and requesting songs at the top of their lungs, the public received, at 9:50 at night, Chucky Acosta, Javish Victoria, Adib Melgen and Elías Santana.

Those who still call “the boys” of the Quisqueya Ensemble, applauded them that the general production of Amable Valenzuela and the artistic production of Rafelito Taveras achieved a show where they enjoyed themselves.

The show began with its new musical cut 50 years, followed by Los limones, a theme that gave it popularity in 1976.

They continued with La toita, La Piragua, Mikaela, Lamento del Bachelor, a merengue that was recorded and popularized by the late Aneudi Díaz, one of the creators of the band in Puerto Rico.

The first surprise of the night was jossie estebanwho sang the merengue Noche de copas, with which he raised the attendees from their seats.

It should be noted that Esteban and the Conjunto Quisqueya made an artistic life in Puerto Rico at the same time.

Javish later performed the pambiche “Dressed as a white garza” and Chucky “El nene se woke up”, a very powerful merengue in 1980.

Then, a video was shown on the screen recalling the life of Aneudi Díaz, who died in 1993, drawing applause from the audience.

María Cristina, Jocosidades (Listen, Tavín, don’t be a liar), were the next songs for the Quisqueya Group.

As had been announced, Felipe Polanco (Boruga) brought humor to the stage, where, amid laughter and applause, those attending the celebration became his accomplices.

At that moment, Roberto Vargas, owner of Radio Cima, was recognized for being a promoter of the Conjunto Quisqueya race.

That station has managed to keep the Christmas tradition alive, frequently placing the songs of this group.

“I am a fan of the music of Johnny VenturaJossie Esteban and the Quisqueya Group”, said an emotional Roberto Vargas, after receiving the plaque.

In addition, Adib Melgen was honored, for being together with Aneudy, the founder of the band since 1979 in Puerto Rico.

What later became the Quisqueya Complex began as a ripiao parakeet, not with the aim of hitting each other, but to “get girls”. That was what the choreographer and chorister of the orchestra expressed.

Fernando Villalona’s entrance with “Soy dominicano” as an introduction and the musical cut “Mi Pueblo” turned out to be impressive. As always, El Mayimbe was received with admiration and a great hubbub.

Loving you and adoring you, was the next song, to give way to Pavel Núñez, who with guitar in hands made the ballad I gave you.

But then he got into merengue with Pegadita de los hombres, one of the icons of that orchestra.

Chucky and Javish made the song Borinquen and Quisqueya, in homage to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, their two homelands.

What the public expected came at the end, which was the part of the iconic Christmas meringues, beginning with Greetings, greetings.

I drink today, I drink tomorrow; as well as La parranda Quisqueya, La juma 1 and La juma 2, The drunk band, followed the party in order.

The toast, and the most anticipated, The Christmas Trouble, with which the Quisueya Ensemble ended, after 1:00 in the morning.

An eager crowd for more songs left the dim, wishing for the dawn to the rhythm of merengue.
