the minister of Public healthDaniel Rivera, announced that the country received a donation of 1.5 million dose of vaccines for childhood immunization from the Federative Republic of Brazilrepresented by its ambassador, Renán Paes Barreto.
Rivera expressed that with this donation of 500 thousand dose of triple DTP vaccines (diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough), 500 thousand of triple viral vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) and another 500 thousand dose of IPV (activated poliomyelitis) vaccines, the Expanded Program on Immunization (MYP) and actions to immunize the population, mainly children.
These vaccines represent savings for the country of 176.5 million pesos, since, according to an illustrative table shared by the minister, each dose DTP has a unit cost of 10 pesos; 164 pesos for the triple viral unit and 179 pesos for each IPV vaccine.
“It’s the new world environment. Among the countries we are donating to be able to cover each other. Brazil He has kindly helped to strengthen the Expanded Program on Immunization,” said Rivera.
In the regular vaccination schedule, IPV is given two and six months after the child is born as an injection, but at four months he also receives OPV, which prevents polio orally. The OPV also receives it at 18 months and four years as reinforcements.
The DPT is applied at two, four and six months. At 18 months and four years a booster. The triple viral is applied at 12 months and a booster at 18 months.
“We thank the Government of Brazil this donation… These vaccines will be distributed in several health centers in the national territory, with the aim of continuing to improve the quality of life of Dominicans,” added Rivera.
On his side, Paes made a formal delivery of said donation and highlighted: “Cooperations are important because when you give it is a gesture of pride, I hope it will be useful for more than one million 358 thousand Dominicans.”
Present at the award ceremony were the director of the MYPAída Lucía Vargas, and the person in charge of the Department of International Cooperation, Indhira Paola Guillén.
