Higüey – The Ministry of Health assumed the care of 17 people living with different mental health conditions and that they remained in the “Hogar Emaús”, located in the community of Matachalupe, in this province.
A commission from the Ministry of Health went to the place to transfer these people and relocate them according to their health condition.
In order to guarantee the rights of these patients, provide them with adequate food and the pertinent medical and psychiatric care.
The MSP authorities explained that, given the conditions of these people, mostly young people, and the economic needs faced by the administrators of the Emmaus Home, they decided to care for the patients.
This, as “part of the responsibility of Public Health to guarantee the right to health of the population, in any circumstances.”
Dr. Robinson Santos said that the institution took care of the 17 patients because of the “situation they were in.”
He indicated that from now on they will have better conditions, with more medical care.
At the time he said that the center will be closed until it is readjusted and you can be fully rehabilitated for its operation.
A part of this group, (ten men), will be transferred to the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center, Father Billini.
Three women will be welcomed into the Luby Home Foundation and two men will be taken to the Guarabi Home.
One will be located in Ángeles Felices, and two, a woman and a man, to CONAPE.
For the transfer, the Ministry of Health counted on the collaboration of the Essential Medicines Program and the Central Logistics Support Program of PROMESECAL.
