The Flagrancy Prosecutor of the 12th Turn, Gabriela Fossati archived the judicial investigation into the head of the General Directorate for Business Inspection (Digefe), Henry De León, Given the found no “evidence” that the head of the Ministry of the Interior has “forgiven” fines to the security companies of the former head of presidential custodians Alejandro Astesiano.
“De León was removed from the investigation. The existence of criminal activity does not emerge from the investigation. It is a right of the person investigated to cease the investigation if no evidence is found against him.. It can be considered that a moral stigma is generated towards him if the investigation continues,” Fossati told El País.
De León returned to his duties in the Ministry of the Interior in recent days, after being on leave, like other hierarchs investigated by the Astesiano case.
Among them is the director of Intelligence, Claudio Correa, and the deputy executive director of the National Police, Jorge Berriel.
Correa is being investigated for allegedly deleting information from Astesian’s phone, while Berriel is mentioned in several chats for granting Astesiano “favors”.
The Ministry of the Interior explained in recent days that Correa and Berriel resumed their functions, despite being investigated, because internal administrative investigations determined that they were not responsible, according to what the Ministry of the Interior told The Observer.
For this reason, the ministry understood that it was not appropriate to continue keeping “two national career directors on leave while the prosecutor advances with the investigation.”
The hierarchs were on leave since the first days of December, when the ministry ordered that all those investigated by the Astesiano case remain out of their posts until the situation is clarified.
