In the third debate, the bill that seeks to sanction and penalize the use of biopolymers in Colombia was approved before the Senate commission.

This Tuesday, before the first committee of the Senate, the bill that sanctions the use of biopolymers in the national territory was approved.
The initiative establishes the creation of a sales center registry and a list of professionals and institutions authorized to practice aesthetic procedures.
That is why this project will contemplate three important points to punish those who make use of this element.
For this, firstly, it seeks to create the crime of personal injury for the use and application of modeling substances, including biopolymers, that is, whoever applies them can go to jail.
Secondly, the registry of substances will be created that, if they can be applied for aesthetic procedures and, the professionals and institutions authorized to practice.
And, finally, the health system will be the one who assumes the costs of the removal of biopolymers and the accompaniment of the victims.
“We are going to continue guaranteeing the physical and mental integrity of the victims, but we are also going to eradicate this practice in the country” said Carlos Fernando Motoa, senator.
Several of the victims were present during the debate, such as the model and businesswoman from Cali, Elizabeth Loaiza, who has accompanied the project before the Senate.
«When I started this process I realized that there are many types of victims, people go for a treatment and they are sold another that can even cause death, since the substance travels through the bloodstream» said Elizabeth Loaiza.
This project only has a debate left in the plenary session of the Senate.

Meanwhile, experts explained that this substance is not suitable for human use.
“For this reason, they cause irreversible effects not only in the injected area, but in other parts of the body and even produce effects at a general level, such as deformities, infections, fever, among others,” they indicated.
