The São Paulo Procon, in partnership with the Zumbi dos Palmares University, launched today (21) a booklet to combat racism in commerce. The guide provides guidance for companies and consumers on how to act and how to combat cases of racism in commercial environments, such as stores and supermarkets.
“This is yet another advance to fight racial discrimination and now in commerce. Defending the consumer is the objective of this booklet by Procon-SP Racial, which mainly aims to tackle veiled racism, where consumers are followed in an establishment just because of the color of their skin”, said the Dean of the Zumbi dos Palmares University, Jose Vicente.
The booklet highlights that racism is violence against the dignity of the human person; that in consumer relations it constitutes a non-bailable and imprescriptible crime; that no person can suffer prejudice due to skin color, race, ethnicity and any other forms of discrimination.
Information about the booklet and how to report racism in the commercial environment are available on the ProconSP website. https://www.procon.sp.gov.br/procon-racial/
