The failure on four occasions of the tenders for the purchase of 150 school bus chargers, which will be installed in Santiago schools, caused long waiting lines at the stations used for these purposes, where the emergency charging process lasts. up to 8 hours.
Onísimo González, director of the National Student Transportation System (TRAE), denied that there are 90 buses stranded in Santiago and defended the purchase of electric units to transport students.
The state official thus responded to statements by the regional director of Education in Santiago, Marieta Díaz, about the deficit in school transportation in that province.
“The 150 buses traveled fully loaded from Santo Domingo to Santiago. There they have been charging at the Fernando Valerio Fortress with the Emergency Chargers that came with each bus. These Chargers charge very slowly,” he said.

He added that the system has two methods of energy supply. An emergency one, which is slow and lasts 8 hours and triphasic, which provides a fast face, which lasts only 1.5 hours.

When González was asked about the reasons for the delay in purchasing the goods, he stated that “for different reasons such as the complexity of the purchasing processes.”
He clarified that “it is not a Public Contracting problem. Many times they have been a problem of the participating companies”
He said that the tender is on the portal of the Public Procurement and Contracting Directorate for the fourth time.
He explained that on one occasion the purchasing process failed because the company that should have won it failed to comply with a clause in the specifications.
On another occasion, the process was rejected due to ignorance of the obligation to certify it at the Superintendence of Electricity.
“There was one time when the suspension was for providing an incorrect reference value,” González said.
He stated that “meanwhile, Slow Charging System is being installed in different Educational Centers.”
He insisted that “there are not 90 buses stranded in Santiago. In the Fernando Valerio Fortress, 76 buses were distributed to different Districts that do not return to the Fortress, which are charging at public charging stations.”
