A group of prisoners from the “Francisco Delgado” Judicial Processing Center, located on the Zulia border with Colombia, are holding the director of that establishment, Andreína Ferrer, kidnapped, according to military sources.
In the same situation is the deputy director Junior Uribe and four custodians of the old El Marite checkpoint, whose external surveillance was reinforced since Sunday night when the kidnapping took place.
Apparently, the prisoners’ action is to demand a specific number of transfers. The group leading the kidnapping possesses weapons and explosive devices, according to sources.
A team of Ministry for the Penitentiary Service settled in the prison establishment and began a negotiation process.
The “Francisco Delgado” Processing Center has approximately 636 prisoners, mostly involved in drug crimes. The aforementioned checkpoint is located in the Mara municipality (San Rafael del Mojan), Zulia’s border with Colombia, with the presence of irregular groups that guard drug shipments from the neighboring country, according to investigations.
