Preventive detention ordered for gunman who killed a woman inside a goat

The Homicide Section of the San Miguelito Regional Prosecutor’s Office managed to get the Superior Court of Appeals to confirm the precautionary measure of provisional detention for a man for the crime against life and personal integrity, in the modalities of aggravated intentional homicide, to the detriment of a 60-year-old woman and for attempted homicide, to the detriment of 4 people.

At the hearing, the Homicide prosecutor, Omar José Castañedas Zambrano, stated before the Court of Appeals that the procedural risks still persist, such as the danger of flight, the risk that the defendant represents for the surviving victims and the community, and the serious nature of the crime, what was considered by the Court.

The event occurred on March 8, 2023, on the main road of El Valle de Urracá, district of Arnulfo Arias, when the defendant, using a firearm, fired several shots at a minor under 17 years of age who was mobilized aboard a bus on the Torrijos Carter route (as secretary or pavero), causing the death of a lady and leaving three other people injured, in addition to the minor.
