The National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) issued a Prevention Notice for waves and winds in the Panamanian Caribbean from today until next Friday, March 24, 2023.
The maritime zones under notice are:
Eastern Caribbean: Guna Yala Region. Central Caribbean: Costa Abajo de Colón, Centro and Costa Arriba. Western Caribbean: Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe Buglé region and North of Veraguas.
According to a surveillance notice from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), these waves could reach heights from 1.4 to 3.0 meters and periods between 08 and 10 seconds, with winds between 15.0 and 35.0 km/h.
It is warned that for the next 24 to 72 hours intensified winds will be maintained in a large part of the country, mainly the Panamanian Caribbean. Caution is recommended in the Gulf of Panama,
Azuero, Darién and the entire Caribbean slope. Given these maritime conditions, SINAPROC recommends bathers and captains of the various vessels to take extreme security measures.
