Omar V. went to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Santa Cruz Departmental Prosecutor’s Office this Friday afternoon to testify about the ‘Prestín’ case and revealed that former municipal official Julio César Herbas lent him US$100,000 at 2.5% interest.
The commission of prosecutors investigating the case, made up of Mirtha MejiaYolanda Aguilera and Marcela Terceros, believes that the money that Herbas lent belongs to the Mayor’s Office Santa Cruz, since there are several indications that show that he dedicated himself to lending large sums of money with resources from the municipality, together with Sergio Perovic, husband of Angélica Sosa.
“The loan being investigated is for $100,000. Mr. Julio César Herbas gave me the money in cash with an interest of 2.5%, in exchange I left a real estate as a guarantee, ”explained the witness when leaving his statement.
The man commented that he met the former Mayor’s Office official, who is now detained in Palmasola for the ghost items case, when he carried out construction work, the sector to which he is dedicated. He added that he found out that he lent money, but he never thought it was with resources from the municipality.
He also commented that he will be on hand to testify again if the Prosecutor’s Office requests itand avoided giving more details of the case, arguing that all his testimony “is found in the investigation booklet.”
Herbas and Perovic are being prosecuted for the crime of legitimation of illicit profits. This process was opened after a witness in the ghost items case revealed that money loans were made with resources from the Mayor’s Office.
