Presidential Delegation of the Valparaíso region will file a complaint for fire in the home of an environmental activist

The presidential delegate of the Valparaíso region, sofia gonzalezannounced that they will file a lawsuit against the people who are responsible for the fire that affected the home of the spokeswoman for the Defense Movement for Access to Water, Land and Environmental Protection (MODATIMA), Lorraine Donaire.

The events occurred last Sunday, June 12 -in the commune of La Ligua- when Donaire’s house began to catch fire and threatened to spread to surrounding homes. According to preliminary information, residents of the sector indicated that two people were found inside the home before the fire, so it is presumed that it was caused by the actions of third parties.

“We hope that the investigative processes will be speeded up, because we cannot allow people who participate in social, environmental or political movements of any kind to be intimidated, let alone attacked,” said the presidential delegate from Valparaíso.

It should be noted that the Government of the President Gabriel Boric, enacted Chile’s incorporation into the Escazú Agreement after going through legislative obstacles. This agreement protects human and environmental rights defenders in cases of threats against them.
