In tourism there is an important potential for the generation of jobs and the promotion of the country as a tourist route, said the presidential candidate Martín Torrijos Espino, after a meeting held in this capital with representatives of that sector, who explained the deficiencies for growth of the so-called “industry without a chimney.”
The conversation revolved around the poles of tourism development as a key factor for the development of communities; job creation; tourism as a source of income; investment; and dialogue with society.
Torrijos Espino, President of the Republic between 2004 and 2009, listened carefully to a general approach on the problems of the tourism sector, as well as the recommendations and proposals for solutions to the multiple deficiencies.
“There is a union in the tourism sector that knows what to do, how to solve promotion problems, the demand that must be created and the products to offer. I am convinced that this will be a priority area for the coming years and in which many Panamanians who cannot find employment today will be able to find a decent job and life”, he stressed.
Luis Ricardo Martínez, organizer of the event, expressed satisfaction that a candidate for the Presidency of the country sits down to listen and exchange ideas about the reality that the sector is experiencing, which shows respect for the tourism industry.
“I take a lot of knowledge of the great needs exposed by great representatives of the tourism industry; I also take with me the hope that with a great leader these things can be carried out for the benefit of the entire country,” said Martínez.
