President Sebastián Piñera Echenique led a meeting this Friday to coordinate work with regional and security authorities for the Mapuche area in the south of the country.

The meeting takes place two days after the events that occurred on the P-72 route that connects Cañete and Tirúa, where a Mapuche community member died after a confrontation with the Carabineros and the Navy.

The regional governors of Bio-Bío, Rodrigo Díaz, and of La Araucanía, Luciano Rivas, participated in the meeting; the presidential delegates Patricio Kuhn and Víctor Manoli; the presidential delegate Pablo Urquízar; the person in charge of Defense for Bio-Bio, Jorge Parga; the person in charge of Defense for La Araucanía, Lionel Curti; and the general director of the Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez.

The President was accompanied by the Ministers of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado; Defense, Baldo Prokurica; and Social Development and Family, Karla Rubilar; and the undersecretaries of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli; of Crime Prevention, María José Gómez; and from Social Services, Andrea Balladares.

At the meeting, the authorities evaluated the progress of the economic and social development plans of the Bio-Bío and La Araucanía regions, and of vaccination and combat against Covid-19. In addition, they analyzed the processes of dialogue and participation in the area.

Finally, the meeting also evaluated the situations of order and citizen security in the provinces with a state of exception, which has allowed the deployment in the area of ​​more than 2,000 members of the Armed Forces, armored vehicles, helicopters, planes and patrols. maritime, and reduce the acts of violence in the affected provinces.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, pointed out that the issue of violence in the south of the country was addressed, and said that “the acts of violence in the last hours in the southern macrozone only ratify the need to have a state of exception in that area of ​​the country, because not only machinery is destroyed, roads are blocked or the lives of so many people are put at risk, but also the violence in the period 2020-2021 has also affected innocent children “.

“Their right to education has been taken away from them. In this period, three schools and four kindergartens have been totally destroyed. 600 children and their families affected by these burns, destruction. What kind of claim is that?”, Said the minister Slim.
