President orders hotels in San Andrés to open space for shelters

Given the alert raised by tropical storm Julia, the President Gustav Petro announced, through Twitter, that the entire hotel infrastructure of San Andrés must open space for shelters to vulnerable population.

According to the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam), the alert level of San Andrés and Providencia went from the surveillance category to the alarm category.

(Flights to San Andrés are suspended after a hurricane alert).

In fact, it is a tropical wave or tropical storm called Julia, which is why since This October 8 from 6:00 am there will be a curfew on the island.

“Julia, it is likely, that it will reach the category of category 1 hurricane, in the next few hours. Even around noon, or in the afternoon”, indicated Ideam in a report. Therefore, “there is a high probability that the center of Julia passes through the island of San Andrés.”

Increased cloudiness and precipitation is expected, accompanied, in some cases, by electrical storms and winds above normal throughout the Colombian Caribbean.

(Why has travel demand increased on digital platforms?).
