The congressman from Peru Libre and president of the special commission in charge of selecting the candidates for the Constitutional Court, Jose Maria Balcazarsaid that “no one can complain about a distribution”, despite the criticisms made of the process by independent entities.
In an interview with Canal N, Balcázar considered that the six finalists of the contest will reach the 87 votes necessary in plenary to be appointed as magistrates of the TC, since “this list has been drawn by consensus.”
“There has been a rigorous examination. Now no one will be able to complain that this has not been a technical exam, that it is a distribution, far from it. Let’s leave the political part to the Plenary. The Plenary has the political discretionary issue that it can say that no one goes and they do not reach 87 votes. That’s where the problem ends,” he noted.

Despite the questioning of the process, due to alleged deficiencies in the round of interviews or the alleged conflict of interest, the perulibrista indicated that “there are many jurists of great importance who have not presented themselves for fear of traditional handouts.”
“But now we need to trust the lawyers. We have no complaint in the Peruvian Bar Association or in the constitutional legal system that we have tried to unduly privilege any candidate,” added José María Balcázar.
