President makes official invitation to Conaie to resume dialogue

A letter addressed to Leonidas Iza states that the new meeting will take place on November 10, at 11:00, in Carondelet.

Through a letter, the President of the Republic, William Lasso, ratified the invitation to the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (Conaie) to resume the dialogue.

“As a representative of the Government of the Meeting, I extend a cordial invitation to hold a working meeting on Wednesday, November 10, at 11:00, at the Carondelet Palace,” says the letter that is addressed to Leonidas Iza, main leader of the social organization.

The president pointed out that at the meeting they will be able to analyze and debate issues of mutual interest, contained in the agenda on which the talks began on October 4, 2021.

At that meeting, issues such as the price of fuel were discussed; the moratorium on credits in financial institutions; public management for farmers and productive sectors; labor policy to generate employment; indigenous rejection of extractivist policy mining and oil; and, the application of collective rights.

The people’s parliament, like the Conaie, plans to meet this weekend and establish a definitive position on the president’s invitation Lasso. In other words, It will be decided whether to open the door to dialogue again or to continue with the strategy of mobilizations and protests in the streets.

On November 4, 2021, Iza declared, after the Plurinational Parliament of Saraguro, which were ratified in unity and resistance against economic measures and the predisposition of a dialogue with results on urgent issues.

These results would have to do, among other things, with the fact that the government agree to freeze at a lower level the price of fuels.

Another stumbling block in negotiations with the Executive is the position of the Conaie on the investigation of Pandora Papers and the alleged illegalities committed by the President Lasso.

Through social networks, the Conaie demanded that the government give explanations on the subject

«The country deserves explanations. The Commission from Human rights approved the report on Pandora Papers that involves Guillermo Lasso with tax havens. This aggravates the political crisis and the inability of the government to listen to social demands and solve urgent economic problems, “said the organization’s post.
