The president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, spoke today (20), by telephone, with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. In a post on Twitter, Lula said that the Russian congratulated him on his electoral victory, wished him a good government and expressed interest in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
“Brazil has returned, seeking dialogue with everyone and committed to the search for a world without hunger and with peace”, wrote Lula.
After the second round of elections, Putin had already recognized the victory and congratulated Lula. The Russian president will not attend the January 1 inauguration, but Russia will send a representative.
Russia is an important trading partner for Brazil. Along with India, China and South America, the two countries are part of the Brics, a bloc of emerging countries.
