President Díaz-Canel highlights ecological initiative in Cuba

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted the initiative developed today in the Finca Marta family agroecological project, with activities for International Women’s Day and the promotion of healthy eating.

In his official Twitter account, the president pointed out that this Sunday the property located in the western province of Artemisa experienced a very crowded ecological experience.

“What a good initiative from Fernando Funes (at the head of Finca Marta) and the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation for Nature and Man,” he wrote, adding that “putting the land to produce and undertaking in a sustainable way has to be a celebration of the whole family”.

Finca Marta combines practice with scientific knowledge to contribute to the transformation of the Cuban agri-food system from a local experience, and is the first private user inserted in the Mariel Special Development Zone, west of Havana.

After a decade of being founded, the project has production, processing, commercialization and consumption capacities, in addition to being dedicated to horticulture, beekeeping, nature conservation and the use of renewable energy sources.

The activities carried out on this day included a yoga exercise, the sale of local products and were designed to establish a link with other enterprises.

In addition to the gastronomic attractions, the initiative made it possible to make donations for women considered vulnerable in the province.
