tensions
Chile’s participation in the Ibero-American Summit will take place amid tensions with Bolivia, Venezuela and Argentina.
Last week, President Boric hardened his tone on migration through illegal crossings. This generated the response of Venezuela, whose government asked to “respect the human rights” of Venezuelan migrants.
In turn, the President accused that Bolivia is not redirecting Venezuelan and Colombian migrants who enter the country through the Colchane border. From the Bolivian Government they responded that they are not obliged to apply the renewal and pointed out that it corresponds to a Chilean norm.
Finally, the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandezreiterated on Tuesday his criticism of the Chilean justice regarding the trial for the SQM case, in which the former presidential candidate Marco Enriquez-Ominami acts as defendant. ME-O is part of the Puebla Group, like Fernández.
The criticisms of the Argentine President generated rejection in the Government authorities. For example, the Minister of Justice, louis corderodescribed them as “impertinent”.
