President Gabriel Boric appointed Patricio Aguilera as the new director of the National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin). This, after analyzing all those who applied for the position through the Senior Public Management (ADP) system.
Aguilera is an industrial civil engineer from the University of Chile; Magister in Administration from the Adolfo Ibáñez University. Likewise, he has taught at various universities and has been working in the public and private sectors for more than 23 years. Since 2020, he has headed the National Center for the Piloting of Mining Technologies (CNP).
Additionally, he served as General Director of Public Works in 2007; corporate manager and innovation manager of Corfo between 2014 and 2015; and executive director of the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission (CCHEN) between 2016 and 2018.
He has also worked as an independent consultant, carrying out various consultancies related to management, modernization, innovation and social impact projects in companies and public organizations, both national and international.
After his appointment, Aguilera thanked the Executive for its support and pointed out that “Sernageomin is an organization that plays a very relevant role in mining and geological issues that are important for the development of the country, for which reason I assume this commitment to contribute to its strengthening and modernization”.
The Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando, highlighted the new director of Sernageomin and assured that “he has vast experience in the public and private spheres, so we are sure that, with his knowledge, particularly in innovation, we will continue advancing with the challenge that the industry has to develop a more productive and sustainable mining”.
