The assassination attempt that was carried out in August 2018 against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, was prepared and financed from Colombia with the support of Julio Borges, denounced the Venezuelan president.
“From Colombia they prepared and financed the plan, they put Julio Borges in charge of the plan to assassinate me. That is why the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court have requested the extradition of the murderer, criminal and mercenary Julio Borges”, asserted the head of state from El Calvario, in a working day on the Bricomiles and the 1×10 of the Good Government.
On Thursday a sentence of the Special Court First Trial with jurisdiction in cases related to Crimes Associated with Terrorism, with Jurisdiction at the national level, condemned twelve people to a maximum sentence of 30 years after being found guilty of attempted assassination, while another five received sentences of 24, 20, 16, 8 and 5 years in prison.
Maduro affirmed that Borges has “responsibility for the murder of a child in Venezuela” and a “personal and direct responsibility in the preparation of the assassination attempt against us.”
“Everything was calculated to assassinate the military political leadership of Venezuela. To the head of state, vice president, ministers, ministers, to all the generals and admirals of the country », he added.
He recalled the events of the assassination attempt, which occurred on Bolívar Avenue during an anniversary event of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), and said that there was a second drone prepared “with a double explosive charge” to “kill all of us who were there”, but crashed “into a building and exploded an apartment on Avenida Bolívar”.
«Four years later, they have seen a sentence on all the material authors, on part of the intellectual authors and the trial continues. May there be truth, may there be justice and may events of this nature never be repeated in Venezuela », he stressed.
In total, 17 people were sentenced for the assassination attempt against the head of state.
