Rural Development Authorities of the Ministry of Livestock (MGAP) and the National Youth Institute (INJU) and representatives of the Honorary Commission for Work with Rural Youth presented the National Meeting of Rural Youth, called “The Campaign is Renewed, You Can be Part of the Change”, which will be held on August 27, in Flores, with the estimated participation of some 500 people.
Felipe Paullier, head of the INJU, explained that it was the work of the honorary commission that made it possible to resume the call and for youth organizations to participate. In this sense, he assured that rural youth “are rich in knowledge, so it is important to listen to them, get to know them, reflect and work together with them.”
For his part, the deputy director of that unit, Aparicio Saravia, reported that “the slogan accounts for a rural youth that calls for renewal and change, to live productive and social rurality, show pride in their origins and participate in a sustainable and modern campaign”.
In this framework, the objectives of the meeting include identifying and celebrating the differences of rural youth, generating spaces for dialogue, exchanging and reflecting on living conditions, making them visible, learning about their groups and work agendas.
The director of Rural Development of the MGAP, Carlos Rydstrom, meanwhile, stressed that this instance is an opportunity to make rural youth visible and listen to their claims or desires. Likewise, he recognized that there are differences between the opportunities they have access to and those of those who live in urban areas, mainly with regard to value chains. “You have to bring them to the fore, to listen to them and incorporate them into programs and projects on technology adoption and improving commercialization, among others,” Rydstrom said.
