Pre-trial detention issued for alleged femicide of Britney Olivas

The Specialized Court for Minors of the Estelí Judicial Complex issued preventive prison for the 17-year-old teenager with initials JPOA, identified as the alleged perpetrator of the femicide against Britney Olivas, who was pregnant. The Nicaraguan Code for Children and Adolescents will prevent the femicide of the pregnant teenager, Britney Olivas Herrera, from being prosecuted for committing a hate crime and sentenced to life imprisonment, he explained to Article 66 the lawyer Yonarqui Martínez.

“In the case that he is a minor, there is a special procedure that stipulates the treatment that should be given to the accused, such as not revealing his identity. He also has an estimated sentence time, in the case of serious crimes, it cannot exceed six years, “said Martínez, referring to article 202 of the Code for Children and Adolescents.

Human rights organizations affirmed that they have noted the high level of violence against women, especially on the North and South Caribbean Coast. “We are facing a situation where the Government is not assuming its responsibility for this situation of violence against women,” they lament.

They demand that those responsible for the crimes be sentenced in accordance with Law 779. At the same time, stating that they will continue to make femicides and all forms of sexist violence suffered by women more visible. “We are going to continue denouncing hate crimes against women,” said Catholics for the Right to Decide.
